Weaving the Blanket is an initiative that builds on the success of continued and regular facilitation of the experiential workshop, The Blanket Exercise, by Tla’Amin Youth, Devin Pielle and Transmedia Artist, Zoe Ludski in the Powell River and the Powell River Regional District.
“The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is an interactive learning experience that teaches the Indigenous rights history we’re rarely taught. Developed in response to the 1996 Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples—which recommended education on Canadian-Indigenous history as one of the key steps to reconciliation, the Blanket Exercise covers over 500 years of history in a one and a half hour participatory workshop.” KAIROS Canada
Weaving the Blanket is a one year initiative of the Community Media Advocacy Centre for the purpose of research, relationship-building, advocacy, and to further our outreach and networking in the West.
The next workshop will be hosted in the Powell River Regional District at Palm Beach, Noon on July 1st. This workshop will be simulcast live as a part of Nuxalk Radio’s Indigenous Day of Action. The station is hosting a radio marathon, reading Arthur Manuel’s book Unsettling Canada in solidarity with Unsettling Canada 150. The marathon will be broadcast on radio stations from coast to coast to coast.
